Peridance Contemporary Dance Company (Saturday and Sunday, through May 13) In a two weekend season, Igal Perry is presenting programs of premieres, including his version of Manuel de Falla’s fiery “El Amor Brujo,” as well as new pieces by Sidra Bell and Kristin Sudeikis. Jose Manuel Carreño of American Ballet Theater will be the guest artist for the first weekend. A special matinee on Sunday celebrates Spanish culture with discussions and screenings of rare films, in addition to dances. The Gratitude Project in NYC is an evening concert of beautiful movement by a collective group of New York based choreographers. The benefit is a way to express the thought of sincere thankfulness for all that life has to offer. Proceeds benefiting breast cancer awareness and The American Cancer Society.
The festival offers workshops in modern, contemporary, tap, Latin jazz, ballet and hip-hop. On Saturday afternoon, choreographer Kristin Sudeikis was on stage teaching a large group of adolescent dancers a contemporary routine. Sudeikis, who has worked as a choreographer for the NBC sitcom "30 Rock" and was a featured dancer for the pop singer Mariah Carey, led the students through fast-paced, ab-crunching floor work as "Partition" by Beyonce blared from the sound system. The group then quickly transitioned to a slower, ballet-based routine danced to John Legend's 2013 song "All of Me."
